P7b have been enjoying their new topic.
Welcome to session 2013/14. Primary 7b have already been work hard, carrying on with the topic we started on the transition days in June. We have been learning about some key figures in medical history and the improvements they have brought about in the health of everyone. Here is a short clip which we enjoyed watching in class which describes the unusual circumstances in which penicillin was discovered. Enjoy! Mrs Currie & Mrs Livingstone.

A busy life in nursery!
What a busy term we have had in nursery! It all started as soon as we came back from the October holidays…
We sprang into action with our eco hats on as we took part in the whole school National Autumn Clean. We explored our playground in search of litter. Thankfully, there was not too much to be found and we could spend some time picking up leaves for our autumn project instead!
The very next day, we put on our spooky costumes and had great fun, carving pumpkins, telling creepy stories and douking for apples at our Halloween Party. We all loved playing in the dark den guarded by the black spider!!
Next, it was Bonfire Night! To make sure we all stayed safe, the local fire brigade came along to talk to us and allow us to try out their equipment. The children loved knocking over cones with the power of the water spray and riding in the engine, complete with oxygen masks. Thanks to all the fire team who came, especially the real Fireman Sam!
Before long we were dressing up again …or rather dressing down as we came into nursery with our pyjamas and mad hair all to raise money for Pudsey Bear and Children in Need. We were so proud of ourselves and raised £70 for this wonderful cause! We also loved making our Pudsey Pancakes!
The children have made their entrance into the business world this term by creating beautiful gifts which were sold at our Christmas Fayre on Friday, 7th. December. The children developed different art techniques and used different materials to create glittery Christmas baubles, Little Angel calendars and lovely ring holders. They worked as a team to make our delicious Christmas cake which was flying off the shelf! Having made the different gifts, the children discussed prices for each item and then consulted with P4/5 children as part of their market research. (Instead of the initial £10 proposed for the cake, we saw this come down to a more reasonable £2.50!) At the end of the project, the children were delighted with their proceeds, £310, which will be used to develop our outdoor play area. Thanks to everyone who supported us!
Next will be our Nativity – scheduled to take place on Thursday, 13th. December for one day only! Get the hankies ready…report and pictures to follow! You will see from the pictures that we have been singing our hearts out to get ready!!

Primary 2 go to Glasgow Science Centre
Primary 2 are winners of local competition!
Primary 2 took part in a competition organised by Hobbycraft for local schools to design an Easter bonnet. Hobbycraft supplied a starter pack to initiate ideas and then the children had to come up with their own design. A public vote was held in the store over Easter and we are pleased to announce that the St Ninian’s bonnet was the winning design. The children enjoyed a visit to the store on Tuesday 24th April to collect their prize of £100 vouchers to spend in store and also took part in some art & craft activities. A big thank you to all who voted and to the staff for making us feel so welcome!
